PSD National Council to Decide on Supporting Mureșan Government

The Social Democratic Party's (PSD) National Political Council convenes online Monday at 10:30 AM to decide whether the party will support the government proposed by Prime Minister-designate Siegfried Mureșan. A parliamentary vote is scheduled for Wednesday.

One week ago, the PSD's Permanent National Bureau recommended against backing the Mureșan cabinet, a position now submitted for the Council's approval. Party President Sorin Grindeanu has repeatedly stated that PSD lawmakers will not vote for the proposed executive.

“Those who try to trap us or dig a pit for us will fall into it themselves.”

Grindeanu has also urged Mureșan to withdraw his mandate, arguing the nominee has shown no desire to secure PSD votes since his designation. He stated the party is prepared for snap elections, potentially as early as next week or in February, though he acknowledged early polls would be economically undesirable for Romania.

The PSD leader described the nomination process as a "joke" and called for a serious solution to form a government quickly. He warned that those attempting to trap the Social Democrats would fall into their own trap.
