Ronaldo Leaves Portugal Camp After Clash With Coach Jesus

Cristiano Ronaldo left Portugal's training camp in Copenhagen on Wednesday after a disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus regarding his role in the Nations League fixtures against Norway and Denmark. The 41-year-old captain announced his departure via social media following a press conference where Jesus stated he would make decisions regardless of a player's status.

Jesus had previously explained he agreed with Ronaldo that the forward would not play the first two matches due to a physical management plan used during their time at Al-Nassr, where Ronaldo rarely played on short rest. The coach said Ronaldo never refused to train but noted his own substitution strategy relies on players ready to enter at the 60th minute.

“After the press conference of the National Team Coach, and following a conversation with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, I made the decision to leave the National Team camp.”

Ronaldo was an unused substitute in the 2-1 win over Norway on September 27 and was seen storming down the tunnel alone at full-time instead of celebrating with teammates. He reportedly did not train with the squad on Wednesday, meeting with Jesus 30 minutes before the session and then returning to the team hotel.

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) confirmed Ronaldo's departure, stating the remaining 24 players would continue preparation for the matches against Denmark and Norway. The federation emphasized the delegation maintains absolute focus on upcoming commitments.

Ronaldo's social media post indicated he would reveal the full reasons for his exit "at the right time" and wished luck to Portugal and all his teammates without exception. Reports from Portuguese outlet A Bola suggest the decision surprised delegation members and players who had noticed signs of dissatisfaction but did not expect him to leave camp.
