Alibaba Unveils Full-Stack AI Roadmap Targeting 20GW Capacity by 2032

Alibaba Group announced a comprehensive full-stack AI strategy at its annual Apsara Conference in Hangzhou on September 22. The roadmap spans proprietary chips, cloud infrastructure, foundation models, and mobile AI agents.

Chairman Joe Tsai and CEO Eddie Wu framed the initiative under the theme "Intelligence Goes Beyond." Wu stated that machine thinking currently represents less than 3% of human thinking but could scale 1,000 times, justifying massive infrastructure investment.

“Machine Thinking still has an enormous growth runway. As machines are becoming the primary force behind Thinking, turning intelligence into a commodity supplied at scale, the truly groundbreaking products of the Machine Intelligence era have not yet arrived.”

The company disclosed that its next-generation model, Qwen 4, is currently in training. Alibaba outlined a roadmap for Qwen 4.5 and Qwen 5 series targeting 5 to 10 trillion parameters, aiming to advance toward artificial superintelligence.

Alibaba's chip division T-Head unveiled the Zhenwu V900, described by Wu as China's most powerful AI processor. The chip supports the company's goal to operate over 20 gigawatts of global data center capacity by 2032.

Wu compared AI's current phase to the early Industrial Revolution, emphasizing recursive self-improvement capabilities where systems identify limitations and enhance their own problem-solving.
