Apple Unveils iPhone Duo Foldable at $1,999, Most Expensive iPhone Ever

Apple introduced its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, at a "Surprise and Shine" event in Cupertino on Wednesday. The book-style device opens to a 7.6-inch Super Retina inner display and closes to a 5.4-inch outer screen, both sharing a 1.4 aspect ratio for seamless transitions.

The handset uses a titanium frame and a new hinge mechanism that Apple says minimizes screen creasing. Unlike other iPhones, the Duo relies on Touch ID for unlocking rather than Face ID, though an under-display FaceTime camera hides beneath the inner panel. The A20 Pro chip powers the device, which carries IP68 water and dust resistance.

Pricing starts at $1,999 for 256 GB of storage, making it the most expensive iPhone at launch. A 1 TB model costs $2,599, while the 2 TB version reaches $3,199 — $700 above the 2 TB iPhone 18 Pro Max. In Turkey, the starting price is set at 230,000 TL. Global sales begin October 23.

CEO John Ternus called the Duo "the most transformational change to iPhone since the original." Apple also announced the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, new Apple Watches, and AirPods at the same event.

Early hands-on impressions from journalists at Apple Park describe the device as impressively thin with responsive software. The crease is faint but visible, contrary to the near-invisible appearance in Apple's presentation. Reviewers including Max Weinbach and Justine Ezarik praised the compact feel and under-display camera.
