Asian Games Open in Nagoya Amid Logistical Chaos

Japan's Emperor Naruhito officially opened the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya on Saturday before a stadium with many empty seats. The ceremony featured a parade of 45 nations and the lighting of the cauldron by hammer throw legends Shigenobu Murofushi and Koji Murofushi. Japan claimed the first gold medal of the Games on Sunday when Takumi Hojo won the men's individual triathlon in Gamagori in 52 minutes 56 seconds. China's 13-year-old swimmer Yu Zidi dominated the women's 200m butterfly heats, posting a time nearly 2.7 seconds faster than her nearest rival. The Games run until October 4, offering 2028 Olympic qualifying spots in seven sports.
