Carcassonne police officer filmed making racist remarks while guarding RN leader

A 50-year-old municipal police team leader in Carcassonne, identified as C.R., is under investigation after Midi Libre published a video on September 8 showing him making racist, sexist and conspiracy remarks during a patrol on November 6, 2025. The gendarmerie seized the footage late last year and a complaint has been filed.

The officer, a former paratrooper with the 3rd RPIMa regiment in Carcassonne, had volunteered for the Rassemblement National's security service (DPS). He escorted party president Jordan Bardella during visits to Limoux on November 1, 2025, and to Agde and Carcassonne in February 2026.

While on sick leave from January 12 to March 16, 2026, the officer continued providing security for RN events. He appeared alongside RN senator Christophe Barthès at the Carcassonne mayoral election on March 22. In May, wearing his uniform, he helped distribute eviction notices to CGT union members alongside the mayor.

The RN excluded the officer from the party on September 9, the day after the video's publication. He remains on active duty in the municipal police force, recently reassigned to night shifts.

Political scientist Jean-Yves Camus, a far-right specialist, described the case as an isolated event unlikely to affect the RN's presidential campaign. The first round of the 2027 election is approximately seven months away, and the party's electoral base is now more solid than in previous cycles.
