Dolly Parton Estate Sues Nephew Over Alleged Threats

Dolly Parton's estate, managed by She's Alive LLC and longtime manager Danny Nozell, filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the singer's nephew and former security chief Bryan Seaver. The complaint alleges Seaver sent violent threats, including messages stating "I'm a killer" and "all I do is warfare," in an attempt to extort money from the estate following Parton's death on August 25 at age 80.

Seaver, who announced Parton's death on Instagram and led her security for over 20 years, was dismissed from his role overseeing her Nashville home, museum, and warehouse properties. A new security team was deployed to those locations Wednesday. Seaver denies making threats, telling the New York Times his words were taken out of context.

“I would not want to leave that mess to somebody else.”

The lawsuit seeks a restraining order requiring Seaver to stay at least 1,000 feet from estate personnel and barring interference with business operations. Court documents clarify the action does not seek to remove Seaver as a beneficiary of the Parton trust, which holds an estimated $450 million in assets including the Dollywood theme park and music catalog.

Parton had publicly emphasized careful estate planning to avoid family disputes, telling Billboard in 2020 she would not want to leave a "mess" for others to fight over. Despite those efforts, litigation erupted less than a month after her passing from cancer.
