Elizabeth Holmes Approved for Halfway House Transfer in August 2027

Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes has been approved to transfer from federal prison to a halfway house in August 2027, according to a Department of Justice victim notification update cited by ABC News. She is currently held at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in southern Texas.

Holmes is scheduled to move to the Austin Transitional Center in Del Valle, a privately operated 460-bed facility about seven miles southeast of downtown Austin. The Federal Bureau of Prisons declined to confirm the specific transfer, citing policy against discussing individual confinement conditions.

“BOP assigns individuals to facilities based on several factors. These include the level of security and supervision required, medical or programmatic needs, separation or security considerations necessary for the individual's safety, and other relevant factors, such as proximity to the individual's release residence.”

Holmes was sentenced to more than 11 years in 2022 for conspiracy and wire fraud related to the collapsed blood-testing startup. Her sentence has since been reduced by one year. She has been incarcerated at the minimum-security camp since May 2023.

The transfer comes weeks before the release of a new documentary, "You Can See Everything," which examines her final days before surrendering. Holmes is expected to reside in Austin upon eventual release under supervision of the U.S. Probation Office.
