Erdogan Arrives in New York for UN General Assembly

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York at 22:50 local time on September 20 to attend the 81st UN General Assembly. He was greeted by Turkey's UN Permanent Representative Ahmet Yildiz, Ambassador to Washington Sedat Onal, and Consul General in New York Muhittin Ahmet Yazal.

A large delegation accompanied Erdogan, including First Lady Emine Erdogan, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek, Intelligence Chief Ibrahim Kalin, and Communications Director Burhanettin Duran. Former Prime Minister Binali Yildirim also traveled as head of the Turkic States Organization Elders Council.

“Rebuilding trust, managing transformation: a United Nations that delivers for all.”

According to the Presidency's Communications Directorate, Erdogan will deliver Turkey's national statement on September 22, the opening day of the general debate, under the theme "Rebuilding Trust, Managing Transformation." This will mark his 16th address to the General Assembly since his first in 2005 as Prime Minister.

The high-level week runs from September 22 to 28. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will open the session for the final time, with Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman presiding. Brazil will speak first among member states, followed by the United States as host.

Erdogan is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with various heads of state and government, and attend events with Turkish-American business leaders, citizen representatives, and think tank officials.
