A fire broke out on the evening of September 6 at a two-story building materials business in the Baksan Industrial Site in Tepebaşı district, Eskişehir. The cause remains unknown. Strong winds caused flames to engulf the entire structure quickly.

More than 20 vehicles and over 30 personnel from the fire department, police, TOMA, AFAD, the Forestry Directorate, TÜRASAŞ fire units, and municipal water tankers responded. Concrete mixers and pumps sprayed water and mortar from above to suppress the blaze.

They are making a great effort to prevent it from spreading to the sides.

Ayşe Ünlüce, Eskişehir Metropolitan Mayor

Eskişehir Metropolitan Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce and Police Chief Tolga Yılmaz monitored operations on site. Ünlüce said there were no casualties and that teams were working intensively to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent businesses.

The building has been reduced to ash, though interior burning continues due to chemicals stored inside. Firefighters also rescued a Turkish flag from a pole at the front of the premises during the operation.

Authorities say the fire is now largely under control, but cooling and full extinguishment efforts continue at the scene.
