Florida Plastic Surgeon Found Guilty of Murdering Lawyer

A Pinellas County judge found former plastic surgeon Tomasz Kosowski guilty of first-degree murder on Wednesday for the 2023 killing of attorney Steven Cozzi. Cozzi's body has never been recovered. The verdict came after a six-day bench trial in which Kosowski waived his right to a jury and chose to represent himself.

Prosecutors argued Kosowski ambushed Cozzi in a law firm restroom, placed his body on a cart, and loaded it into a Toyota Tundra later found in Kosowski's garage. Surveillance footage and cell tower data placed Kosowski near the scene at the time of Cozzi's disappearance.

“I committed this murder in a common area, in the bathroom, in the middle of a busy office complex. No one heard a thing. No one saw anything.”

Kosowski did not present a defense case but argued in closing that the prosecution's theory required "superhuman strength" and was physically impossible. Judge Joseph Bulone rejected the argument and delivered the guilty verdict after a brief deliberation.

The case now moves to a penalty phase where Bulone will decide between life without parole and the death penalty. Kosowski confirmed he will continue to represent himself during sentencing proceedings.
