Former Prison Doctor Linked to Kozinoğlu Case Found Dead in Istanbul Home

Former prison campus doctor Turgay Tamer, 66, was found dead in his home in the Sinanoba neighborhood of Istanbul's Büyükçekmece district. His wife, Marina Tamer, discovered the body after returning from a 12-day trip to Moldova and entering through a window when she could not open the door.

Police and medical teams responded to the scene and treated the death as suspicious. Tamer's body was sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute in Bahçelievler Yenibosna for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

“Turgay Tamer is not a forensic doctor. Kaşif Kozinoğlu's deteriorating health was not communicated to this doctor. Therefore, he did not perform any medical intervention on Kozinoğlu.”

The Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated Tamer served as a campus doctor at the prison where former MIT officer Kaşif Kozinoğlu was detained. The prosecutor emphasized Tamer was not a forensic doctor and had not been informed of any deterioration in Kozinoğlu's health; therefore, he did not perform any medical intervention on him.

Tamer had been detained on September 10 as part of the investigation into Kozinoğlu's death in custody. He was released on September 14 under judicial control after giving a statement. The prosecutor also noted Tamer had existing health problems and had not practiced medicine for some time.

Pana Film director İhsan Karademir was also questioned in the investigation and released under judicial control. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Tamer's death.
