Former Valencia culture councilor Mayren Beneyto stated on the program "Salvados: La alcaldesa" that King Emeritus Juan Carlos I personally asked then-mayor Rita Barberá to support events organized by Iñaki Urdangarín.
The "Valencia Summit" events ended up in court, paralleling a similar case in Mallorca but with different outcomes. In the Balearic Islands, former regional president Jaume Matas was convicted.
