Harvey Weinstein sentenced to 15 years in New York retrial

Harvey Weinstein, 74, was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in prison for a criminal sex act against former production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006. The sentencing follows a retrial last year in which a jury again found him guilty of assaulting Haley but acquitted him of a charge involving Kaja Sokola and deadlocked on the rape allegation by Jessica Mann.

Judge Curtis Farber set the term between the prosecution's request for 20 years and the defense's request for nine. Weinstein has already served more than six years since his initial 2020 conviction, which was erased by New York's highest court in 2024 over improper testimony.

“Having been sexually assaulted by Harvey Weinstein has had a devastating effect on my life and sense of security that may never go away. It's a life sentence for me.”

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg declined to pursue a fourth trial on the Mann charge in June after she said she could not testify again. The judge formally dismissed that count. Weinstein remains imprisoned in California on a separate 16-year sentence for a 2013 rape conviction.

Haley told the court the assault had a devastating, lifelong impact on her sense of security. Weinstein, speaking from a wheelchair, apologized to those he may have hurt but reiterated his claim of innocence.
