MLB, White House discuss Grand Teton baseball game

Major League Baseball approached the Trump administration about hosting a game at a national park, officials from both sides confirmed Saturday. The administration scouted locations in Grand Teton National Park for a potential baseball facility, according to people familiar with the matter.

National Park Service Deputy Director Frank Lands visited Grand Teton this week and examined three potential sites within park boundaries. One site is already disturbed land rather than pristine park property.

“Keep America's pastime in our baseball parks, not in our national parks.”

The White House stated the request came from MLB and is not a presidential directive or administration priority. The Park Service has not granted any permits, and MLB has not made final decisions.

The idea follows the success of MLB's Field of Dreams game in Iowa. Grand Teton is the eighth-most-visited national park, known for views of the Teton Range.

Visitors at Jenny Lake reacted negatively to the reports. Critics argued national parks should remain sanctuaries for wildlife and natural beauty, not sports venues.
