Parliament Speaker Kurtulmuş: Early Election Not on Agenda, Disarmament Monitoring to Begin

Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş told reporters that the legislature is working according to the current election calendar and that early elections are not on the agenda. He added that if 360 votes are secured, the parliament could renew the election schedule.

Kurtulmuş said a parliamentary monitoring commission will be established after the legislature reopens to track the implementation of the law on strengthening national unity and social cohesion. The commission's structure and membership will be decided through negotiations with political parties.

The speaker stated that the disarmament and dissolution process is proceeding as planned, with relevant units and a coordination board chaired by a presidential vice president overseeing developments on the ground. He emphasized that the law will only be implemented after the National Security Council confirms the group's disarmament and dissolution.

Kurtulmuş argued that the new constitution process should be kept separate from the 'Terror-Free Turkey' process, even though both are on parliament's agenda. He also described the parliament itself as the 'third eye' overseeing the process, rejecting foreign or international monitoring.
