Pope Leo XIV Announces 11-Day South America Tour Across 14 Cities

Pope Leo XIV will embark on his first trip to Latin America as pontiff from November 6 to 16, visiting Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru over 11 days. The Vatican confirmed the itinerary on Monday, detailing visits to 14 cities where the Pope will deliver 35 speeches and celebrate 9 masses.

The tour begins in Uruguay on November 6, marking the first papal visit there in 40 years since John Paul II. Leo XIV will meet President Yamandú Orsi, celebrate masses in Montevideo, Paysandú, and Florida, and visit vulnerable communities in the Casavalle district.

On November 8, the Pope flies to Buenos Aires for the Argentine leg, the first by a pope since 1987. He will visit the Casa Rosada to meet the President, address authorities at the Palacio Libertad, and celebrate a mass at the Monument of the Spaniards in Palermo.

The Argentine schedule includes a visit to the Pequeño Cottolengo Don Orione in Claypole and the federal penitentiary complex. A day trip to Córdoba is planned for November 10, followed by a stop at the Marian shrine in Luján on November 11 before departing for Peru.

In Peru, where Leo XIV holds citizenship and served as a missionary and bishop for two decades, the visit runs from November 11 to 16. Highlights include a meeting with Amazonian indigenous representatives in Pucallpa and the closing of the Jubilee Year of Saint Toribio de Mogrovejo. The Pope departs from Callao Air Base on November 16, arriving in Rome the following day.
