Pope Leo XIV to visit Luján basilica on November 11

Pope Leo XIV will arrive in Argentina on November 8 and remain until November 11 for his first apostolic visit to the country. During his four-day stay, he will attend events in Buenos Aires and Córdoba before traveling to Peru.

On November 11, the pontiff will travel to Luján, located 68 kilometers from Buenos Aires City, and celebrate mass at 10 a.m. in the square in front of the basilica. Millions of people are expected to attend the event.

Luján is home to the Virgin of Luján, the patron saint of Argentina and a symbol of the country’s Catholic identity. Millions of Catholic faithful have traveled to the shrine for generations to pray.

Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno said Luján was chosen for its significance to all Argentines and because it is centrally located and accessible from other areas.

Traffic restrictions in Luján will begin on Saturday, November 7, at midnight and extend through Wednesday, November 11. Several streets and bridges near the basilica will be closed to vehicles, while pedestrian access will remain permitted in some areas.

Once the “Zone 0” is fully closed, masses at the Basilica of Luján will be moved to San Martín Park. The Pope will also tour the streets of Luján in the popemobile.
