SDP's Adebayo pledges solar power on every Nigerian roof in 11 months

Social Democratic Party presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo promised on Tuesday to install 11 to 15 kilowatts of solar power on every Nigerian roof within 11 months of taking office if elected in 2027. He made the pledge during an interview on Arise Television's Prime Time programme.

Adebayo said his administration would build solar-panel manufacturing plants across Nigeria and train citizens to install and maintain the systems. He stated the proposed solar clusters could generate up to 32,000 megawatts while creating employment.

“I promise that between 11 to 15 kilowatts of solar power will be put on every roof within 11 months.”

The candidate described the national grid as a backup for when clusters fail. He said factories could be established through partnerships with China, Turkey, and India, with Nigerians trained to operate them.

Adebayo cited his own experience manufacturing solar panels and lithium batteries in his hometown, where he claimed to have trained about 2,000 people. He noted he still purchases inverters due to technological limitations.

He also advocated government investment in strategic sectors such as aviation and manufacturing through operating and maintenance contracts, and pledged to promote domestic refining while tackling crude oil theft.
