Suspect arrested in femicide of Spanish student Claudia Tacoronte in Cuautla

Morelos prosecutors obtained an arrest warrant for Francisco Javier N., alias "El Trompas," identified through citizen videos as the suspect in the femicide of 21-year-old Spanish exchange student Claudia Tacoronte Aguilera in Cuautla. The warrant was issued on September 16 after forensic and testimonial analysis.

Federal Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch confirmed the suspect's capture on September 18 at a fruit shop in Cuautla's Mercado Hermenegildo Galeana. Prosecutor Fernando Blumenkron Escobar stated the suspect shaved his head and beard after the crime to avoid recognition.

The detainee has a criminal record including at least five prior cases for robbery and home invasion dating back to 2010. During questioning, he confessed to robbery but claimed not to remember the attack on Tacoronte.

Authorities formally delivered Tacoronte's body to her father, Valentín Tacoronte, on September 18 in a ceremony attended by Spanish consular officials, university representatives, and federal and state authorities. The National Commission for Victims will handle reparations.

Investigators are still processing evidence seized in searches following the arrest, including the victim's phone and the alleged murder weapon. Municipal liability for Cuautla remains under investigation.
