US Naval Blockade Halts Iranian Oil Exports and Deepens Crisis

The United States Navy has imposed a naval blockade on Iran, effectively halting the regime's oil exports and local fuel supplies. US Energy Secretary Chris Wright confirmed that the blockade focuses on stopping Iranian cargoes rather than closing the waterway entirely.

Tanker data shows Iran's crude loadings have collapsed to a fraction of pre-war levels. According to reports, Iran has gone about seven weeks without shipping meaningful crude through the Strait of Hormuz.

“Unfortunately, the U.S. is not winning in the war with Iran despite its limited success in loosening Iran's grip over the strait and the devastating impact on Iran's economy.”

The ongoing war, launched by the US and Israel in February, remains at a costly stalemate with no clear diplomatic progress since a June agreement crumbled. While the US has made progress in reopening the Strait of Hormuz for other countries, Iran shows no signs of capitulation.

Economically, the pressure has depreciated the Iranian rial and starved the government of foreign currency. However, the economic squeeze has yet to stoke a domestic uprising, and Iranian leaders may opt for military escalation.

Internationally, the conflict has driven the price of Brent crude above $100 a barrel this week, while diesel prices have hit a record. US President Donald Trump acknowledged that gas prices are likely to remain high through the midterm congressional elections.
