News broadcasting in France is an arrangement in which a strong public sector sits alongside a private sector held by a handful of large industrial groups. The public side comprises France Télévisions, Radio France and France Médias Monde, which runs international broadcasting; all three are publicly funded with remits defined in law. The regulator is Arcom, created in 2022, which merged the broadcasting oversight powers of its predecessor the CSA with responsibility for regulating digital platforms.

The defining feature of the private sector is concentration. The owners of France's major news channels and newspapers are industrial and telecommunications groups whose principal business is not media.
