Argentina Moves Olivos Security to Military, Fires 12 Staff

The Argentine government dismissed 12 civilian employees at the Quinta de Olivos presidential residence on Thursday, including administrator Osvaldo Javier Sosa. Officials cited alleged leaks about President Javier Milei's routine and inner circle as the reason for the reorganization.

Responsibility for security and administration of the residence has been transferred to the Military House, a force reporting to the General Secretariat led by Karina Milei, the president's sister. The transition must be completed within 60 days.

“The decision is one of security. An investigation determined there is a risk to information and also to security.”

Authorities clarified that military personnel will not perform civilian tasks such as cooking or gardening, but all staff interacting with the president will now operate under military command. The government denied rumors that the move was related to the president's dogs.

Union leader Daniel Catalano stated the dismissed workers were barred from entering the property and given no formal justification for their termination. The group included gardeners, kitchen staff, and administrative personnel.

The shift coincides with the 2027 budget proposal, which allocates approximately 362 billion pesos to the Military House, a real-term increase of 60 percent over 2026. Meanwhile, the budget line for presidential residence maintenance loses value against inflation.
