East Zone reached 385 for four at stumps on day one of the Duleep Trophy final at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium after captain Ishan Kishan won the toss and batted. Openers Abhimanyu Easwaran (72) and Vaibhav Suryavanshi (44) added 133 before lunch, with the teenager Suryavanshi taking on returning India pacer Mohammed Siraj.
Suryavanshi struck three fours and a six off Siraj in a 12-ball burst but fell to Chama Milind's short ball. Shikhar Mohan contributed 85 before Milind claimed his second wicket. South Zone skipper Tilak Varma turned to spin in the second session without success.

Kishan (111*) and Kushagra (63*) then tore through a tiring attack in an unbroken 144-run stand from 160 balls. East Zone plundered 139 runs in the final 25 overs at 5.56 an over, leaving South Zone's bowlers searching for answers.
Siraj, playing his first match since the England tour, bowled 14 overs without a wicket, conceding 96 runs at 6.90 and rarely exceeding 135 kph. Fellow seamer Tripurana Vijay leaked 114 runs in 22 overs as the pitch offered little assistance.
