Flamengo beats Bragantino 2-1, extends Brasileirão lead to three points

Flamengo defeated Red Bull Bragantino 2-1 at the Maracanã on Sunday to open a three-point lead atop the Brasileirão standings. The victory lifted the Rio side to 60 points after 28 rounds, while Palmeiras remains on 57.

Right-back Varela opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a sliding finish from a Carrascal cross. Striker Pedro doubled the advantage early in the second half, ending a five-match goal drought.

Bragantino pulled one back late through Nacho Sosa, but Flamengo held on for an 18th league win of the season, two more than their title rivals.

The match was marred by an early injury to left-back Ayrton Lucas, who left on a stretcher after just four minutes with a right thigh issue. He was replaced by Alex Sandro and will undergo imaging tests.

Pedro showed visible frustration when substituted for Bruno Henrique shortly after scoring. Coach Leonardo Jardim downplayed the incident, citing squad management during a congested fixture list and praising the player's commitment.

Both clubs now enter an 18-day FIFA international break. Flamengo resume against Santos at Vila Belmiro on October 8, while Bragantino face Atlético-MG in a postponed fixture on October 3.
