Hundreds of tourists arrived in Jurilovca, Tulcea County, this weekend for the Lipovenesc Borscht Festival. Over ten buses and numerous cars reached the commune, but no festival existed.
Travel agencies had been selling excursion packages since early summer with varying dates from late August to mid-September. None contacted the mayor's office to confirm the event. Artificial intelligence tools, including ChatGPT, also hallucinated festival dates.

Mayor Eugen Ion stated the local administration never announced or prepared a festival. He mobilized his team to call agencies demanding they withdraw false offers. Some apologized and cancelled; others refused, citing internet information.
Ion said he personally asked ChatGPT about the festival and received a hallucinated response confirming it for this weekend. AI programs reportedly validated each other's false information online, amplifying the confusion.
Tourists found only a quiet commune on Lake Razim's shore instead of music, crowds, and traditional fish borscht. The mayor urged the public to verify information through official sources.
