Qualcomm Unveils Dual Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Chips at Summit

Qualcomm announced its sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile platforms at its annual Snapdragon Summit in Maui, Hawaii. For the first time, the company introduced two distinct flagship chips: the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and a more powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Both system-on-chips are manufactured on a 2-nanometer process and are designed to deliver advanced on-device agentic AI experiences.

Senior Vice President Chris Patrick stated the dual-platform strategy gives device makers more choice while pushing the boundaries of mobile AI capabilities. The new chips aim to compete with MediaTek's recently launched Dimensity 9600 Pro and an upcoming Samsung Exynos 2700.

“Today we mark a milestone by introducing not one, but two new flagship mobile platforms that deliver immediate, personal, and adaptive agentic AI experiences.”

According to Mobiili.fi, the standard model carries model number SM8950 while the Extreme variant uses SM8975. The Extreme version includes all features of the base chip plus additional enhancements, potentially paired with more expensive memory, which could raise costs for premium smartphones.

Multiple Android manufacturers are expected to unveil new flagship phones equipped with either chip in the coming days, weeks, and months.
