Security guard killed stopping fare evaders at TransMilenio station

Security guard Cristian Garzón, 27, was stabbed to death on the morning of September 18 at the Terreros TransMilenio station in Soacha. A man and a woman had entered the system without paying, and when a female guard confronted them, the man threatened her with a knife. Garzón intervened to protect her and suffered two chest wounds.

The attackers fled toward the Terreros neighborhood but were captured by police, private guards, and citizens shortly after. Garzón was rushed to a Salud Total medical center, where his death was confirmed at 9:50 a.m. The suspects await judicial proceedings.

“This case will not remain in impunity; we will support the Police and the Prosecutor's Office so these two criminals pay for what they did.”

Bogotá Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán confirmed the arrest in a video on X, expressing solidarity with Garzón's family and vowing the case would not go unpunished. He pledged full support for the Police and Prosecutor's Office to ensure the perpetrators are held accountable.

The killing has intensified debate over violence against TransMilenio staff. Council member Juan David Quintero cited data showing 196 attacks on guards in 2025, 144 linked to fare evasion enforcement. In 2024, 96 assaults were recorded, 56 related to confronting fare evaders.

Security firms described the death as a "foretold tragedy" and declared mourning for the sector. Quintero has proposed creating an elite "Urban Squadron" integrating National Police, judicial police, the CTI, and local authorities to respond immediately to crimes within the system.
