A three-month-old girl went into cardiac arrest around 8:45 a.m. on Saturday while camping with her family on land off Strawberry Lane in Great Wyrley, Staffordshire. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene shortly after.
Detective Inspector Katie Gregory said the investigation is in its early stages but confirmed the death is being treated as unexplained and appears to be an isolated incident. Officers remain at the site, which includes a fishing lake in the Wyrley and Essington Branch Canal Local Nature Reserve.
“While the investigation remains at an early stage, this is an isolated incident and we understand that the child's family was camping in the area.”
Drone footage shows at least four tents and camping chairs set up near fishing platforms in the wooded area. A witness directed emergency crews toward the lake after the alarm was raised.
Cheslyn Hay district councillor Robert Duncan urged the community to avoid speculation and give the family and responders privacy and respect while inquiries continue.
