Trump Bans CNN, MSNBC, Politico From White House

President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he is banning CNN, MSNBC, and Politico from the White House effective immediately, accusing the outlets of repeatedly publishing "fake news," "fiction," and "lies" about his administration. He made the declaration in a Truth Social post and later defended it to reporters in the Oval Office.

Trump said no single story prompted the decision, describing it instead as a reaction to "cumulative stories over the last few years" and alleging the outlets purposely write negative coverage to damage Republicans. He warned that other organizations, specifically naming the New York Times and Washington Post, could face similar restrictions.

Despite the announcement, reporters from all three outlets remained at the White House on Friday afternoon and continued working. The White House press office did not immediately clarify how the ban would be enforced or whether it applies to the entire complex or only certain events.

CNN responded with a statement calling any enforcement an "illegal assault" on First Amendment rights and vowed to challenge it. Free speech experts cited by Reuters said broad exclusions from generally available press facilities would likely face strong constitutional challenges.

Trump also claimed without evidence that Politico received $8 million from the Biden administration to stay afloat. The move comes weeks before the November midterm elections as Trump's approval ratings hover near historic lows amid the unpopular Iran war.
