CBC News is the English-language news service of Canada's public broadcaster, CBC/Radio-Canada. The corporation was created in 1936, at a time when American broadcasting was filling Canadian airwaves, to build the country's own broadcast infrastructure, and it has stood at the centre of Canadian cultural policy ever since.

Its distinguishing capability is geographic reach: across the sparsely populated north, in Inuit and First Nations communities, CBC is often the only broadcaster and publishes in local languages as well. Its agenda covers national politics, the economy and developments originating in the United States — the space American stories occupy in Canadian journalism being a natural consequence of the economic tie between the two countries.

Global News is the news service of the Global Television Network within Corus Entertainment and one of Canada's three major national news providers.

It maintains local news centres across the country, and regional reporting makes up a substantial part of its output. Its digital operation is strong, with the news site and video service among the most read digital news sources in Canada.
