This is the BBC's Persian service. As one of the World Service's broadcasts in more than forty languages, it delivers news produced to British public broadcasting standards to Persian speakers in Iran and in Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

Pressure on its staff in Iran and on their families has been documented in reports by international organisations; the corporation cannot therefore station correspondents inside the country and conducts its journalism from outside using verification methods.

Its large audience inside Iran illustrates the reach that satellite-delivered Persian channels have in the country. Its history documentaries have drawn attention for offering a frame outside the official account of Iran's twentieth century.
