French developer creates app to check on isolated elderly relatives

Virgile Wiss, a 35-year-old IT executive from Vitry-le-François, launched the free smartphone application "Je vais bien" in June 2026. He designed it to solve a personal problem: his mother, in her sixties, lives alone and struggles with technology, yet he cannot call her every day.
The app sends a configurable notification — hourly, daily, or weekly — prompting the isolated person to tap a button confirming they are fine. Once tapped, pre-selected trusted contacts receive an automatic email or phone alert.

If the user does not respond, a reminder follows; after a second missed check-in, the same contacts are notified and can decide whether to act. Wiss stresses the tool is not a medical device and does not contact emergency services.
Wiss, who previously co-created the social app "Si on sortait," says he builds software he needs in his own life and has no profit motive for this project.
