Numerous regions across Greece are placed under a Red Code mobilization status for Monday, September 7, 2026, due to a very high wildfire risk. The General Secretariat for Civil Protection issued the daily Fire Danger Prediction Map placing these areas at risk category 4.
Affected locations include the regions of Attica, Crete, South Aegean, and Western Greece. Specific regional units in Northern Aegean, Central Greece, Thessaly, Central Macedonia, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, and the Peloponnese are also included.
Under the Red Code status, the National Civil Protection Mechanism enters full mobilization. Necessary human resources, materials, and equipment are deployed to ensure readiness for potential emergencies and disaster management.
Local authorities and municipalities within the designated zones are instructed to immediately convene their respective Civil Protection Operational Coordination Organs. These meetings aim to review preparedness and risk mitigation strategies.
Citizens are strongly advised to exercise caution and avoid outdoor activities that could accidentally trigger fires. According to Ertnews, residents should immediately dial the emergency number 199 if they spot a fire.
