Valencia President Pérez Llorca Faces Key Debate Without PP Nomination

Valencian President Juanfran Pérez Llorca appears before the regional parliament on Monday for the final general policy debate of the legislative term. The session comes as Pérez Llorca remains unconfirmed as the People's Party candidate for the election expected in May 2027, despite widespread expectation he will lead the ticket.

The national PP leadership, headed by Alberto Núñez Feijóo, is set to approve regional congresses for several territories on Monday but will maintain the interim management structure in Valencia. Sources indicate no candidate names will emerge from the meeting.

Opposition parties PSPV and Compromís plan to use the nomination delay as ammunition during the debate. The parliamentary bureau scheduled the session to start at noon rather than the usual 10 a.m., ensuring only the president's speech airs during midday news broadcasts.

Pérez Llorca, who took office in December following Carlos Mazón's resignation amid public pressure over the 2024 Dana floods, intends to outline proposals extending beyond 2027. His office says he will present "future measures" for a "more just, dynamic and balanced" Valencian Community.

The debate also marks one year since Mazón's 44-point policy agenda. Several of those measures addressed post-Dana recovery, while Pérez Llorca has sought differentiation on issues including the Valencian Language Academy.
