9News is the news service of the Nine Network within Nine Entertainment. In 2018 the group merged with the long-established newspaper publisher Fairfax Media to become one of Australia's largest media groups — a merger that brought newspaper and television journalism under one roof and reopened the argument about media concentration.

9News bulletins are produced separately in the state capitals. The group's newspaper resources, the long-established titles of Sydney and Melbourne, feed the news service's investigative capacity.
