SABC News is the news service of South Africa's public broadcaster, the SABC. The corporation's transformation from an instrument of apartheid-era state propaganda into a public broadcaster of the democratic era is among the most visible instances of the country's institutional change.

Its distinguishing obligation is multilingualism: it broadcasts in all the country's official languages and produces its bulletins separately in each. For large audiences in rural areas who take their news in their own language, that makes the corporation the only accessible source.

Its financial and governance difficulties are a recurring subject of debate in South Africa; against that, its national transmission network has no equal in the country.
