Sky News

Sky News launched in 1989 as the United Kingdom's first twenty-four-hour rolling news channel and permanently changed British television news, which until then had consisted of a handful of bulletins a day. It operates from a broadcast centre at Osterley in west London. The 2018 acquisition of Sky Group by Comcast brought it under American ownership; it nonetheless remains subject, like every news channel broadcasting in Britain, to Ofcom's impartiality obligations.

Its strength is breaking news and sustained live coverage. The channel's identity rests on its capacity to stay live for hours through election nights, parliamentary sittings, royal occasions and major accidents, supported by helicopter and satellite infrastructure. Sky News Breakfast and the evening analysis strands are its fixed points.

It is one of the few large British channels to carry its live feed free and unrestricted on YouTube worldwide, which makes it directly accessible to viewers outside the UK.
